Maybe I am weak. Some say that. Some say that if I gave you up I obviously didn’t want you that badly. But I did. So much so that it merely hurt to be close to you. So much so that for a while there you were all I saw.
But I think it took a lot of strength. Because every step away from you was harder than the one before. But I pushed on through.
I just wanted you to be happy. Even if making you happy made me miserable in the process.
Mental pain is less dramatic than physical pain, but it is more common and also more hard to bear. The frequent attempt to conceal mental pain increases the burden: it is easier to say “My tooth is aching” than to say “My heart is broken.
